Ran into this problem today. Flash development is impossible under VMWare without a correctly running timer... Oh, just for info, the stock kernel in 2007.1 (2.6.17-13mdv) has a 250 Hz timer, which means things run at 1/4 speed instead of 1/10 speed. So it's ever-so-slightly harder to tell that there's a problem. Thank goodness I’d read this entry a while back! Ran into this problem today.
