Yeah, I thought of doing something similar - just do all recording scheduling through MythWeb and carry on using Freevo for watching stuff. The MythTV recordings are just plain old video files, after all. Only problem is they're a bit cryptically named (you'd have to remember the date and time of everything you watched).

I use a Logitech Harmony remote for everything, it's brilliant. Only problem is I use a museum-piece TV tuner just because it has an IR input and I'm too cheap to just buy a USB IR transceiver; the port on the card is getting old and every time you move the system chassis you have to fiddle around with the IR receiver cable for five minutes before it'll pick up signals again :) heh.

Yeah I have to agree re the Video and (especially) Music plugins with MythTV. The Music one is due for a rewrite soon, but even still it lags behind a lot.

I really like MythTV backend and the MythWeb stuff is handy (even if is little dated and not quite as ajaxy as I'd like).

Currently I'm using XBMC for my media needs. MythTV still runs on my backend box, with the frontend a network booting NFS-root thing. XBMC works as a reasonable frontend to MythTV but it's nowhere near as nice as MythTV itself as a TV frontend.

I think XBMC support for MythTV will improve over time so fingers crossed that this will be a good solution for me. For now the music and video interfaces in XBMC are keeping me happy (along with my DeNovo Bluetooth keyboard and iPhone XBMC remote app!)

Of course my frontend h/w has it's share of of idiosyncrasies too. Quite often it just totally fails to detect there is a network present... very annoying.
