New Fedlet build (finally)!

Yup, I finally got around to putting together a new build of Fedlet, my Fedora remix for Intel Bay Trail tablets like the Dell Venue 8 Pro, Asus T100, Lenovo Miix 2 and others.

The new build has a current Fedora 21 userland and a 3.16 kernel, which brings some substantial hardware support improvements. Check out all the details over at the Fedlet page and grab the new release if you like.

The github repo has been updated to match the new build.

3.17 kernel, no?
adamw wrote on 2014-09-12 14:47:
No, intentionally 3.16 for now, as I hadn't done the 3.17 merge yet and wanted to put out something working before I start messing with 3.17.

Why not x64? bootia32 can boot x64 kernel.

Mainly because I have a setup that works for building 32-bit images. (Also, frankly, on a 2GB system you probably *want* 32-bit arch). I haven't looked at the cross-booting stuff yet, maybe I'll play with it later.

i'm getting a black screen when xorg/wayland starts. It work with nomodeset.

I'm using V8P
adamw wrote on 2014-09-12 18:06:
are you sure it's when X starts? is it not early in boot, as soon as modesetting kicks in? Do you know what firmware you have on your V8P? We have a working theory that older firmware versions hit the bug, but newer ones don't. My report is .

You are AWESOME! DD'd the iso straight to a thumbdrive and it booted on my Dell 11 Pro (baytrail version not the i3). I have the attachable keyboard and its trackpad works, though keyboard doesn't. Overall ... thanks so very much. Now to see if dual boot works.

And the Dell active pen works! Has anyone told you that you are great? Cause you are.
chao wrote on 2014-09-15 13:18:
great! thank you adamw ,i try fedlet-20140911.iso on lenovo miix2 , the "troubleshooting--basic graphic mode" can boot, the other two halt. use "livecd-iso-to-disk " install to disk ,a bug occurred :'DiskDevice'object has no attribute 'disk'.
adamw wrote on 2014-09-15 15:11:
Hum, so perhaps the Miix 2 has the same bug as the V8P? If you check boot with 'drm.debug=15' you can compare your output to mine in . I didn't test the installer before releasing, d'oh - sounds like it's got a bug or I mixed up anaconda and dracut versions. I'll maybe do another release with 3.17 kernel soon if I can find the time.

I'm unfortunately having difficulty getting this installed on my Asus T100, looks like it lacks the efibootmgr package. I note it now works with the mmcblk0rpmb problems which is great. This is my experience: - Boots up in ~1.5 minutes to desktop. Dropping from the graphical boot indicates some "mmcblk0rpmb" errors, only as far as 50 seconds from boot - Anaconda runs fine and proceeds up to and past "Installing Software (100%)" - It fails half way through "Installing bootloader" Looking in the stacktrace it has the line "File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/pyanaconda/", line 1695, in remove_efi_boot_target" Further down I think is the issue: "00:17:55,168 ERR program: Error running efibootmgr: No such file or directory" I tried running efibootmgr and it is indeed not installed, yum install efibootmgr and yum provides efibootmgr return nothing. Having a google round I note it's only available on F20 in 64-bit flavours:

oh, nice catch. I may have been carrying a 32-bit build in fedlet before and forgot about it. I'll investigate more tomorrow. Thanks!

When running the live image, I installed efibootmgr from your fedlet repository, and anaconda's still failing with this error. Also my friend has a kernel with this patch it's janky as fuck, but you may consider picking it up. I am waiting for a kernel RPM to get spit out with this patch in it right now for my own use.
adamw wrote on 2014-09-17 15:38:
So I believe anaconda runs efibootmgr within the installed chroot, and I don't believe it actually installs packages you 'installed' into the live environment, so that still kinda makes sense. We need to build a new live image with efibootmgr baked in, don't worry, I'm on it. :) Thanks for the patch link, I can't say I'd really noticed those errors but I'll take a look at it!
Ryan Rix wrote on 2014-09-17 16:57:
Those errors are exclusive to newer t100's as I understand it

Hi Adam, Any word on this new image? I tried to get your tooling up and running but it was a bugbear of patching random things and I stopped :)
adamw wrote on 2014-09-28 03:01:
Hi Ryan - I'm kind of splitting my Saturday between fedlet and relval (my toy project for doing release validation management stuff from the command line). I have a new fedlet kernel build sitting in koji waiting to be be tested for the new image compose (didn't include your desired patch, sorry!) I'll see if I can get that tested and an image built tonight before I run out of steam / time / scotch / whatever.

I got a kernel built, it is the rest of it I struggled on, so no worries :)

Hi, has anyone tried running fedlet on the Thinkpad Tablet 8? cheers lexiedee
